Hi All,
I am an American graduate student. I am planning to visit Montreal from Wednesday to Friday this week along with two of my friends. I have some rather specific questions with regard to my trip. Some input would be extremely helpful. Here goes:

a) Is a trip to Mont Tremblant worthwhile? Any input on what I can expect up there would be very helpful.
b) Is there a way to get on the VIP lists/guestslists of Club Vatican or Club LaBoom ahead of time?
c) Has anyone heard of or taken the “Croisiere historique sur le Canal de Lachine” boat tour? Is it worthwhile?
d) Have you heard of the following restaurants?

Laloux
Boris Bistro
Café Eldorado
Canadian maple delights

Any feedback on these places would be great.

e) The following places are on my list of “places to visit”

Mont Royal
Olympic tower
Vieux Montreal
Quartier Latin

Is there anything important I am missing? Please let me know.

Thank you,

Pranav

Hi there,

Hopefully this will reach you in time. Here are a few thoughts:

a) Mont Tremblant is very nice, kind of resort-y, definately more interesting in the winter because it’s a ski resort but there is biking and hiking and interesting things in the spring as well. It’s about a 90-minute drive north of Montreal. If you only have 2 days, though, you may want to skip it. There are other pretty places that are much closer – for example, Parc St-Bruno which is about 15 minutes outside of downtown on the South Shore, or if you’re interested in the Laurentians, Saint-Sauveur is about halfway to Tremblant and is a pretty town.

b) Yeah, if you know someone you can get on the guest list. Some of the hostels may get you on if they know people, though I don’t know about that because, as a local I’ve never stayed at a Montreal hostel. I wouldn’t worry too much about getting in, though; it’s not a big deal. The crowd tends to be a bit young, though – just a fair warning. Legal age is 18 here and those clubs (especially La Boom) tend to attract the just-18s or the fake ID crowd a lot.

c) Sorry, never done it, so no idea.

d) For restaurants, check out www.montrealfood.com for reviews and info. Montreal has one of the highest numbers of restaurants per capita in North America, so you’re sure to find great places to eat.

e) It depends on your interests. Tourists often enjoy going to check out some museums while they’re here, or things like the Biodome or the Botanical Gardens. Vieux Montreal and the Quartier Latin are neighbourhoods, not really specific attractions, and you’ll probably enjoy just walking around.

By the way, it’s a bit chilly here right now – unseasonably so – and they’re forecasting rain into the weekend with highs in the mid-teens. Bring a warm waterproof jacket.

Hi segacs,
Thank you for your detailed response to my post. I just read it a little while ago. Furthermore, thank you for the weather warnings. I will pack accordingly since I am leaving tomorrow morning.
