US Citizen working in the UK
Wed, 09/01/2004 - 10:41
Here’s the site that gives all the information about working in the UK. It’s the government’s site so I’m sure it’s accurate.
http://www.workingin…
Basically what I can tell from going through it is that if you’re a US citizen and you are going to leave the UK within 6 months, and if you have enough money to support yourself already when you’re there, you don’t need to apply for a work visa.
CAN ANYONE CONFIRM THIS?
Perhaps someone that has been there before and done this…
Thank you.
Paul

Paul, it is my understanding that US citizens are allowed to live and travel in the UK for 6 months or less without having a visa. BUT if yu want to have a proper job you need to have a work permit. I got one through BUNAC (www.bunac.org) and bought a 6 month work permit and tried later to get it extended, but found it impossible for me without a needed skill. Check out: www.ukvisas.gov.uk and www.homeoffice.gov.u…. good luck!
US citisens do not qualify for working holiday visas in the UK. If you are a US citisen, you may qualify for a temporary 6-month work permit under certain employment programs (but you must apply for that program), but for long-term jobs, you first need a residence permit for the UK in order to get a work permit. Residence permits are not granted to tourists from the US.

Hi, so… basically, you need a blue card that will allow you to work in Britain for 6 months like everyone else said the address up above is a web page that has all the information. If you are interested in BUNAC they can offer you some help if this is your first time planning a working abroad trip.
