This is often a confusing subject (I know it was for me) so I just thought I’d explain this to any students out there who are interested in working while abroad.

First of all you need a student visa. Since I’m going to University here I have one. This lets you work 20 hours a week during term time and as many hours as you want when you are not in school.

You will also need a temorary national insurance number. I have a job center on my campus so they helped me out and gave me one. It was really a bit confusing for me at first because employers often don’t realize that it’s okay for you to work here. I had to bring in all sorts of paperwork explaining that it was okay to hire me. However, you can also just go to a pub and work under a table and skip all of this stuff. E-mail me if you have any questions.
