Vienna-Bratislava-Zelena voda
Sat, 06/20/2009 - 09:45
i am from greece and i am planning to visit the “topfest” (http://www.topfest.s…) in slovakia. i found cheaper tickets from thessaloniki to vienna, so probably i will choose those and not fly directly to bratislava. i know that it’s near those two cities but i am concearned about a few things…
first of all, how is the best way to travel on thursday 25 of june, from vienna to bratislava (or directly to zelena voda if possible), by bus or by train. And how often are there busses and trains leaving from vienna to bratislava? Second how is the best way to travel from bratislava to Zelena Voda the same day? (some people suggested me the trains, but i thought it would be better to ask?) i am also a little concerned about how i will go from the airport in vienna to the train station or bus station.. but i am sure i will manage to find the way by asking some people there….i am planning to fly my return from vienna to greece… so can somebody calculate how long will it take to me to go from Zelena Voda to vienna with all the delays…..?

The Vienna airport is almost as close to Bratislava as it is to Vienna. There are buses from the airport to Bratislava. I don’t know for sure, but I think bus, which will probably go to the Bratislava train station, is your best option. There’s an airport train station, but I think taking the train would involve a very difficult route — train to a minor Vienna train station, public transit to another train station, then train to Bratislava. I would definitely check out the bus first.
First of all, the town and the station you are looking for is NOVE MESTO NAD VAHOM (= New Town Upon Vah). There will be no direct connection to there from Vienna, you will have to transfer in Bratislava.
From Vienna to Bratislava, there are two train routes, both have a hourly interval.
1) through Marchegg: Wien Sudbahnhof 5:28 … and every hour until … 22:28, Wien Simmering +6min, Wien Erzherzog-Karl-Str. +15min, Bratislava hlavna stanica +60 to +70 min.
2) through Kittsee: Wien Sudbahnhof 7:05 … and hourly until… 23:05, Bratislava-Petrzalka +58 min.
Remember, that Bratislava-Petrzalka and Bratislava-Hlavna stanica are about 5 km apart, and if you use the Kittsee line, you will have to use the Bratislava public bus No. 93 that links Petrzalka and Hlavna stations. Runs every 5-12 min., length of journey 12 min., ticket €0.50 – bought in advance at tobacconists or ticket machines).
From Bratislava hlavna station, there are trains to Nove Mesto nad Vahom in two-hour intervals (leaving Bratislava hlavna stanica at 6:10… and every 2 hours until 18:10, also 19:55, Nove Mesto nad Vahom +69 min.). Costs €4.47 second class.
So the trip from Vienna to Bratislava is about 1 hour and the trip to Nove Mesto also about 1 hour. The remaining 1500 meters from Nove Mesto station to Zelena Voda lake can be done on foot or maybe there will be some sort of festival pendular bus. I am talking now about the trip from the Viennese South station (Sudbahnhof), not the airport.
I can’t find the timetable of the bus to VIE airport. But it’s useful to know that it starts and ends at Bratislava Mlynske Nivy bus terminal, which is quite far from the Hlavna train station. A trolley-bus No. 210 runs between them, it’s a short 10 minute journey for €0.50.
If you have any questions about Prague or Czech and Slovak republics, ask me.
If you only want to search train or bus connection within Czech&Slovakia and/or to neighboring countries, use www.cp.sk or www.idos.cz search engines. For domestic transport, they also show prices.
