Hi,

I’ve been reading about visa requirements for Canadians and I’m still a bit confused about what to do exactly or what I need. I am a university student, but I plan to take the 2006-2007 year off school to travel. I plan to go to Spain, the Netherlands and Norway, less than 3 months each, but more than 3 months total (I’m hoping about 8).

What kind of visa would I need for this? I won’t exactly be working, but I will be doing a bit of volunteering for food/shelter sometimes. I thought it would be ok, but then I started seeing all that ‘schengenland’ stuff and I’m all confused again about the 3 month rule.

Also, I’ll be travelling with a partner from Norway. He will be ok visa-wise, right?

Thank you!

You mention you are volunteering for a food shelter. Is this already arranged and documented? What type of organization is it? You may be able to talk with the organization (if too small this may not apply) about sponsoring you.

Anways, for Visa information. The three countries you are visiting are all part of the Schengen Agreement. You can travel within those three countries for less than 3 months without a visa. Any thing more than three months, and you need a Schengen visa. You get it from the Consulate of the country you first enter (e.g. Norway).

There are requirements for specific documents, financials, travel insurance, etc.

Hi, thanks for your reply. The organisation is WWOOF for working on organic farms. It’s a large, worldwide organisation, but in their ‘rules’ it says that the farm people cannot help you obtain a visa or work permits at all…so they make it pretty difficult!

Thanks for your info!
