WAMU Atm trouble??
Sun, 07/16/2006 - 01:28
Since WAMU switched over to their Gold Mastercharge Card, it only has the Star logo on the back. I have heard from some people that they haven’t been able to access their money in some of the countries in Europe. Anyone out there with any stories or information in that regard would be helpful. I will be in Greece fo a month and then London for 3 days on my way back home
Thanks,
Judith
Hey Judith,
Your post got me a little worried, since I just opened up an account with wamu. I recieved my debit card today and while I can offer you no real travel experience information, I can tell you that in the back of the letter it says that "card transactions can be processed through the MasterCard system (including Cirrus and Maestro)".
It looks like we should both be fine…
Any update on this? I’m going to Greece as well and I did receive an email and talk to a WAMU rep saying the card should. However, I talked to MasterCard they said that unless the card has the Cirrus or Maestro you cannot use a machine that only has those symbols. Basically, the card has a MAsterCard symbol on the back and can be used at any ATM that has the MasterCard symbol on it, but if it doesn’t have it and only has the Cirrus or Maestro, then the card cannot be used.
I then spoke to another WAMU rep and got her to admit that what MasterCard was saying is true. It seems that almost all ATMs that have Cirrus and Maestro also have the MasterCard symbol. I don’t think it will be aproblem, but would really appreciate anyone who has use the new WAMU card in Greece to post wether or not it worked. Thanks!
