Wanting to travel but not sure how to start
Wed, 02/03/2010 - 09:45
Been planning to travel at least Europe for years but never quite had the guts to do it. Haven’t got a huge amount of money behind me but if I can at least start and get some work while I’m travelling then I should be okay. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on making those first steps out of the front door and how to keep walking…
Any help would really be appreciated
I am traveling for 182 days
London, Paris, Marseilles, Milan, Venice, Florence, Pisa, Rome, Athens, Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Stuttgart, Berlin, Amsterdam

Yumie,
Have you ever traveled outside your own country before?

Have you thought about teaching English while you’re in Europe?
This is quite a good article about how to make it work: http://www.tefl-chalkboard.com/travel-guides/142-Teaching-English-in-Europe
Good luck with your trip!
Working “under the table” is the only way. You might be able to bar tend or other such work. Check with hostels in advance. They may let you stay there for work in return.
Eat the food, use the wrong verbs, and end up getting charged double.
You can travel around Europe while working there to at least support your travel needs.
US passport holders can not — technically — if they enter Europe on a typical tourist stamp at arrival. Of course there is under the table work, but with no rights or privileges. The police might not be much help if you tell them your employer won’t pay your wages owed, if you’re there working illegally.
