What are those sleeping bag sheets called?
Mon, 07/02/2007 - 20:35
Hi all, I remember reading this (or maybe another?) forum not to long ago about some type of sleeping bag that was light and thin, like a sheet, and good for use in hostels. Is there a name for these and what is the best place to obtain one?
Also, is there any one backpacking/travelling forum that’s considered the most popular?
Thanks,
Dan

That would be a sleep sheet. google is your friend
also known as a hostel sheet or a sleeping bag liner.
If you buy a sleeping bag liner (these can be silk – light weight but pricy) you can go to a outdoor outfitter store.
If you are going to take a sheet – you can sew one yourself or ask someone who has a sewing machine nicely to do you a favour. I bought mine 15 years ago at a travel/hostel shop.
You can also find a “dreamsack” (really nice silk) on-line from the mail order houses that specialize in the the odd and high-end stuff that’s in the catalogs on the airplane.
Great, thanks guys, I was having trouble finding it online
As far as good travel sites, besides this site (which has some excellent information for sure), here are some:
thorntree.lonelyplanet.com – in my mind the definitive site for country specific advice
www.bootsnall.com – great backpacking site
www.eurotrek.net – non-profit backpacking site with lots of knowledgable & well travelled travelers
I’m actually debating about bringing one this time, myself. I’ll be there about 30 days… at LEAST 5 (likely twice this number) of these nights will be spent on trains, and at least 5 spent in a sleeping bag I’ll be borrowing while I’m there. They don’t cost THAT much to rent at hostels, and alot of hostels these days don’t let you use your own, anyway. Not to mention a folded queen size sheet gets REALLY heavy after a while, as I learned last time (I left the damn thing in Sweden.)

I ended up ordering a silk one on ebay for like 12 dollars, we’ll see how it works out next month. It’s homemade but the price is right.
Oh and I bought one of those 12 in 1 franklin language translators, what a non intuitive p.o.s., I’d be better off with 12 dictionaries.
Yeah… I dunno… Even at hostels its like a Euro to rent them, and alot of places now require you use theirs ANYWAY.
lus if I’m not using them too much aside from that…. yeah. Maybe I’ll change my mind in the next couple days, we’ll see

Of all the hostels I’ve stayed at, I’ve only been charged for sheets twice, and it’s only a small amount.
Yeah I remember it being a couple bucks at MOST, if they even bother charging.
