What is the best way to get around?
Sat, 05/23/2009 - 19:09
My itinerary is mostly Western Europe.
I have a lot of questions so please bear with me.
Shall I buy a Eurail pass for the whole 2 months?
I was thinking of booking a flight from Barcelona to Nice.
Should I also book a flight from Paris to Barcelona?
When do you think would be most appropriate to ride overnight trains?
Thx in advance guys!
I am leaving from Cali, USA with $10000 for 71 days
Munich, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona, Ibiza Town, Barcelona, Saint-Tropez, Nice, Milan, Florence, Naples, Vienna, Olomouc, Prague, Corfu, Zürich, Interlaken, Paris, Bruges, Brussels, Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Frankfurt, San Francisco

Whether or not to buy a Eurail pass and which specific pass to buy depends on your exact itinerary (including exact dates and times), how far in advance you can book train tickets and how many hours you’re willing to spend searching the individual rail company websites to find and book special fares. Given that you’re traveling in Germany, France and Benelux and will probably be traveling through Austria, some kind of railpass will probably save money. For a two month trip, I’d probably look for a either a 4 or 5 country select pass (A pass probably won’t save money in Czech Rep. or Italy and maybe not in Spain) or a flexi pass for about 15 days
I would fly from Paris to Barcelona if I could find a cheap flight. Otherwise I’d take an overnight train.
My rules of thumg: Train ride 5 hours or less, take the train. Train ride 5 to 7 hours, whichever’s cheapest. Train ride over 7 hours, fly unless it’s prohibitively expensive. Take an overnight train if there’s one available and the flight is too expensive.
Ok thank you for your response!
I have booked a flight from Paris to Barcelona as per your advice.
I think I will look into the 5 country railpass… perhaps a flexipass?
Once again thank you for the advice

Try using www.railsaver.com It will give you a recommendation on the best railpass. It works best with an itinerary, and can follow the “I have a good idea of my itinerary” route.
Ok thank you
I will buy railpasses accordingly
