I will be in Amsterdam on March 19 & 20th. I would like to find out where the best places to party are for an American college student on a budget, the best coffeeshops, places to eat, museums to visit, and other attractions that may be worthwhile to visit. If anyone has any suggestions on where to go and what to do I am open to suggestions.
Thanks for your help.

Anne Fank Haus and the red light district are places not to be missed Smile Also the Van Gogh Museum.

If u dont know much about Anne Frank try and get ur hands on her diary before u go. It makes it so much more meaningful. If u’ve read it than dont miss the museum!

I plan on visiting the Red Light District, the Torture Museum, the Heineken Brewery, the Sex Museum, Anne Franke House, and possibly Jimmy Woo’s. I heard it’s difficult to get into Jimmy’s though. Other than that, I am wondering of specific places to party, drink, meet people, and smoke. Any help would be very helpful.
Thanks

Walk the canals…there are many nice outside cafés to sit and space out in the sun. My non-smoking perception is that the hash houses are pretty dark and dreary. So get some take-out and go to an outdoors café. The best are located on the right side canals (with the train station at your back), near the jewish quarter.

I knew one guy who never knew there were canals in Amsterdam, even after he went there on a hash expedition. In general stay out of the center area except to buy…it’s not very nice.

I also loved taking a break in Vondelpark. There was a great little cafe in it called the Blue Treehouse (well it has another name in Dutch) where I had the best sandwich ever. I also went to another family owned restaurant where I had a traditional Dutch meal. I can’t remember the name of it, but I will let you know after work when I have my Let’s Go book in front of me

I am leaving from Denver, CO and traveling for 18 days
Frankfurt, Prague, Wrocław, Paris, Lisbon, Donostia, Barcelona

London, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Dublin, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, Marrakech, London

London, Gothenburg, Oslo, Frankfurt, Paris, Rome, Venice, Barcelona

Amsterdam, Bruges, Interlaken, Nice, Cannes, Paris, Glasgow, Edinburgh, London

If you have any interest in WWII, check out the Dutch Resistance Museum. Very interesting. www.verzetsmuseum.or…

Although I could go on for hours on this topic, one of the best things I did while in A-Dam was spend an afternoon sitting on a bench across the canal from the Anne Frank House. Taking in the sights, sounds, scents while enjoying some of A-Dam’s finest was one of the most interesting and relaxing times I have ever had on a holiday. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed.

I may sound like a bit of a noob, but this will be my first trip to Amsterdam and I’m quite anxious about going, in a sorta good excited way.
Though I have smoked before I’ve never rolled my own, should i get some pratice in before I go? How safe is it to smoke there? I guess its pretty widespread there. Are you only really allowed to smoke in the coffeeshops or am I allowed to walk around with a spliff hanging out my mouth whilst giggling all the way round the Van Gogh museum…?
To stay there for about 3-4 days whats a sensible budget to use if i want to experience all the aspects of modern amsterdam life?
Cheers

I wouldn’t worry about being able to roll your own. If rolling is a problem you could buy a cheap bowl or buy the pre-rolled joints offered by many coffeeshops. I suggest smoking only in the designated coffeshops. You will see/smell others smoking on the street, but it’s not recomended. There’s plenty of cool coffeeshops spread throughtout the city; there’s really no reason to smoke out in public. What I would normally due is hit a coffeeshop before going sightseeing. A quick spliff & something to drink before heading out is always nice. I’ll be there April 18th through the 24th & I’m starting to get psyched. Good luck!

Do you think it’s crazy to buy 5g or more and then take with me for the next leg of my trip? Ill be travelling by train through germany after ADam.
another thing is prices, what am I likely to pay for a premade joint, whats a good price?
thanks again

Not to worry. Here is an informative page instructing rolling a typical Dutch joint: http://dana.ucc.nau…. It is also possible to buy pre-rolled in some shops, although there are few things quite as delightful as a beautiful Dutch barmaid rolling, tonguing erotically a handmade personally for you. As an American, it is not to my taste to use tobacco with cannabis, nor do I care for the larger size. In fact, I usually carry a small glass pipe, a miniature bong as my preference. Some shops offer bongs, some even vaporizers. Coffeeshops are remarkably tolerant of the many styles of inhaling, and you’ll likely soon find yourself most welcomed and accepted – Amsterdam is, after all, famed for "gezelligheid" – warm welcoming hospitality, intimate good fellowship, comfortably satisfying living. Obviously one may smoke comfortably in coffeeshops, but wandering alight would be considered flaunting conventions, although there would be no objection, say, sitting quietly by a canal or in a park partaking – all subtlety and good sense. Budgetarily, Amsterdam is expensive – hostel, EUR 20-25, food and entertainment, a major variable – even supermarket food and vlaamse frites can be dear; not to mention the pleasure of "brown cafes," the traditional Dutch pub; let alone a night of clubbing; finally, the better deals buying smoke in bulk would be about five grams for approximately EUR 20.

I personally would not recommend attempting to transport cannabis out of the country. Although, not unlikely you could do so successfully, there is always the awful off chance of detection, arrest and prosecution.

Oops..sorry…there goes my 80’s lingo again. A bowl is a pipe used for smoking tabacco & other smokable products. Regarding your desire to have some smoke with you for other legs of your trip; well…it’s not recomended, but can be done if you’re smart about it. I wouldn’t get on the train looking or smelling like a burnout. Also, the weed in ‘dam is very stinky & could easily be detected by someone sitting next to you. Also, it’s not uncommon to have customs official board your train when crossing over to the next country. Be smart & you shouldn’t have a problem, but there’s always a chance of getting snagged which would ruin the rest of your trip.
