In two weeks I’m flying into Barcelona to hang out with my sister for 9 days. She has been in Florence for the semester and is on break for that week. I can speak a little spanish and so I thought Spain would be fun, but the problem is neither of us have any plans once we get there. So if anyone has any ideas, i.e. best places to go, theaters, museums, towns, markets, hostels? anything would be helpful. Thanks

The typical tourist thing is to walk around las Ramblas. It’s not bad at night when there are lots of street performers out. Definitely check out the Gaudi-inspired parks and the Sagrada Familia. Apparently they’re revamping much of the city these days. New parks/mall area and I think the beach is next on the reconstruction list. You’re also not too far from San Sebastian which would be a nice beach/bar getaway.

Monseratt, a really good day trip out of Barcelona, take a local train, which takes an hour, then catch the cable car up to the monastery, just wander around the grounds and the monastery, at 1pm each day they say a short mass in several languages
