What to do in Munich?
Mon, 06/05/2006 - 15:32
I’ll be going to Munich July 12-14. In fact I’ll be visiting a colleague at LMU, so it’s not going to be three full days of sightseeing, but I’m surely going to venture out the school walls. So far my agenda looks like this:
- Visit Neue Pinakothek, because it was closed on my last trip
- Hang around Marienplatz, because its cool
- Do not scale Frauenkirche, because I have done that already
- Have a beer at Augustiner Keller, because Sunskin thinks everyone should

Have a beer at the Hofbräuhaus too.
Watch the Glockenspiel when you’re in Marienplatz.
Take a trip out to Dachau
if you’re an anglophone and want to have a low key, humorous tour of the city, do mike’s bike tours. it’s fun, the guides are funny, and you’ll meet other english speakers, mostly the low 20 something balmer’s crowd.
I was talking to a friend you visited Munich last year and he said the entire city shuts down at midnight. Is this true?
I’m certainly no expert on Munich, but the few times I have visited, things seemed pretty quiet after midnight. I’m not a club kind of guy; so i really didn’t explore that scene. In preparation for my return this September; I have been checking out this site, which has some good info on nightlife.

The late-night party is there..it’s just a matter of finding it. Good luck!
You should also see the BMW Museum, and tale a nice, long walk thru the Englischer Garten. You can catch the Isar river-surfers pretty much all day there, and…. have a bier or two at the Chinescher Turm (Chinese Tower bier garten) too.
