Am going to scandinavia in September and wondering what to pack. Definately walking boots, but what else? Will it start to be cold by september?

It could be cold, but Scandinavia is a vast region. Last year, mid-October was very mild and pleasant here in southwest Norway (I was grilling out in short-sleeves in October… in NORWAY!) but that was unusual. Last April was sunny, highs low 70s, little rain—basically summer weather—but last June was cold and rainy. The point is to be prepared for seasonal extremes in Scandinavia. In September, assuming you’ll be south of the Polar Circle, you might be able to wear shorts. Bring a couple of light sweaters, some long pants, and (very important) a waterproof parka shell with a hood. Layered with light wool and t-shirts, you can handle 3 seasons in Scandinavia (and you could get 3 seasons all in 1 day!). We have a saying—if you don’t like the weather, just wait 10 minutes.

I’m planning on heading north so perhaps I’ll take some heavier clothes as well, better too warm than too cold you think?
