what would be the best ticket to purchase?
Mon, 07/21/2008 - 05:06
My friend and I are going travelling for 10 days around europe the main cities we want to go to are barcelona, venice with a day trip to milan, nice, and amsterdam and maybe berlin, so thats 4 or 5 countries. I was thinking of getting the 5 country pass how does that one work or is there cheaper tickets ? as i dont really understand how all the tickes work. I live in london so will it be easier to catch one of the trains to my first stop and is that easy to book and look at schedules.

First off, you’re visiting way too many far- flung places for 10 days. Concentrate on Barcelona, and Venice with a stop between in Nice. I would look at flying from UK to Barcelona and from somewhere in Southern France or Northern Italy back to UK.
It’s impossible to know which, if any, railpass is the best deal without an exact itinerary and a lot of research on each of the individual national rail company websites into which specials are available on which specific date. A bigger issue is whether you are eligible to buy a eurail pass. It sounds like you’re a resident of UK which means you can’t buy a eurail pass. However if you’re a citizen of a non-European country and are traveling on a non-European passport then you should be able to buy a pass despite the fact that eurail is not for citizens and residents of Europe. As a UK resident you are eligible for an inter-rail pass, which may be a better deal in your case.
Hi,
Im not and uk resident..im australian just living in london atm. yeah i thought is was too many places to see in that amount of time… but we definalty want to go to barcelona, venice, nice and amsterdam. so what tickets do you think we should get for that if we fly down to barcelona then catch the train to france then itlay then up to amsterdam… then bak to london!
Put your itinerary in at www.railsaver.com It will give you a recommendation on which, if any railpass, is best for your itinerary. Follow the “I have a good idea of my itinerary” route and check “I prefer purchasing railpasses (to point to point tickets) ‘only when it saves money.’”
