Obviously a pocketknife would be very handy especially if it has multiple accessories but can you take it through airports and whatnot without checking it?

No, just check it in your luggage. Chances are you won’t need it on the flight or in the airport anyway.

Always check knives. If you aren’t checking any luggage, you can also buy one overseas.

What I mean is what if I don’t want to check my pack? I figure that will take a lot of time. Can i do that with a knife or should I just wait til i get where im going to buy one?

You can’t carry a pocket knife on the plane. If you aren’t checking luggage then buy a knife after you get to Europe.

But you can’t bring it back if you carry your pack as carry on.

As a southern boy who lives in a pocket knife culture, I made it quite fine without a knife.

Check in has never taken me that long.
