Where to book overnight train from Prague to Budapest online??!
Fri, 04/16/2010 - 10:47
Hi All,
I’m trying to find prices and possible book the overnight train (477 Amicus?) from Prague to Budapest, but I can’t seem to find any up to date prices. I tried www.cdrail.cz and bahn.com but they are not showing the overnight train as an option?
Can anybody shed some light on how much a 2nd class youth ticket costs (including couchette reservation), or point me to a site where I can find this information?
Thanks!
I am leaving from Toronto with $1500 for 17 days

1. What are your dates? Try tomorrow’s date — that should give you a good idea of standard fare — fare’s probably won’t change at all. If they do it will be very minor. Most national rail company websites don’t sell tickets more than 60 days in advance. Also, this time of year there is also sometimes an issue with the switch from winter to summer schedules. Sometimes the websites aren’t updated with the new schedules until a few weeks before train dates.
2. Some of the national rail company websites don’t sell “international” (one European country to another) tickets on line. If you can’t buy it on-line from either the Czech or the Hungarian (check the reverse route, the price will be the same) website, then you can’t can’t buy it on-line at standard fare — and aren’t likely to find standard fare on-line. Hungarian website is: http://www.mav-start… Czech is
3. You could check one of the travel agency websites like www.raileurope.com www.railpass.com www.eurail.com to see their pricing. This will show global fare plus any agency add-ons. Figure that standard fare will be at least 30% less. Buy the ticket in at the train station in Munich.
4. Hope Paypr finds this post
Hi Oldlady,
Thanks for the quick response. I used next Tuesday’s date (as I will be travelling on a Tuesday in June) but the only fares that showed up were the day tickets.
I tried raileurope.com and they only had the overnight from Budapest-Prague but not the other way around. Would the price be comparable?
