Hello, I was wondering anyone could help. My best friend and I are saving to go to Europe, most likely in march. Where do is start … how should I go about planning it? Do I find a cheap flight and then just look at a train schedule from then there after to each country? And hostels … do we just find then online and then go to them when we are in the country?? Is someone could just start me off on what step one is & if possible step 2/3. Thanks a lot

I was just as clueless when I started backpacking for the first time in this past spring. But, I feel like I have a good grip on things now. How long are you going to be in Europe for? I don’t do trains usually. I like to fly because with Ryanair you can get dirt cheap tickets! Like in Jan. I am flying from Milan to Paris for 14 Euros! That is just a one way ticket, but it was a great deal. They have good deals ALL the time. they fly to TONS of places! It saves me time and money! So, I would def. check out www.ryanair.com, www.easyjet.com is good too. I would book plane tickets first, then worry about hostels and sites that you want to see later. www.hostelworld.com is great, I use them all the time. You get pictures of the hostels and availabitities and you book online, but only pay a 10% deposit. Hope this helps!

Here’s how I usually map things out:
1. Figure out how much time and money I can spend.
2. Find places that I want to go that fit with my time/resources.
3. Search flight and lodging availability and prices. If this doesn’t fit with step 2, then I reduce duration, quality of lodgings, or switch to a cheaper destination.
4. Book flight first, then lodgings.
5. Figure out and book bus, trains, short flights as necessary.
