Hello, I was wondering anyone could help. My best friend and I are saving to go to Europe, most likely in march. Where do is start … how should I go about planning it? Do I find a cheap flight and then just look at a train schedule from then there after to each country? And hostels … do we just find then online and then go to them when we are in the country?? Is someone could just start me off on what step one is & if possible step 2/3. Thanks a lot

Step 1 – figure out where you want to go. For that, start reading about countries, check the main part of theEurotrip site, buy a guidebook… You can be as specific as you want, but it’s always a good idea to keep some flexibility. You will probably want to change where you go once you’re over there.

Step 2 – think about how much time and money you have. Right now, you have not enough time and not enough money. It’s that way with everyone. Don’t try to cram too much into a trip or you’ll end up hating the whole thing.

Step 3 – plan a bit. Take a look at train schedules between places to find out how long it will take to move around. This is an accurate site for European trains. Figure out what sights you want to see. Take a look at hostels on-line. All that stuff. For hostels, you can book in advance, but I wouldn’t do it too far out in case plans change. You can always call the day before once you’re travelling. Ask questions on the forums in this site.

Step 4 – buy a ticket. Keep in mind that you may find a really cheap connecting flight inside Europe, so you don’t have to fly into your real 1st stop.

Step 5 – pack and go.

I would add to delfrio’s excellent advice:

step 1: the library is the best place to start, because you only want to buy a guidebook after you’ve chosen which part of Europe you want to go to

step 3: besides trains, which are usually the mots comfortable but rarely the cheapest option, look intobusses and budget airlines as well. See if it’s worthwhile to get a rail or bus pass (Eurailpasses cannot be bought in Europe, so you need to do that in advance).

You know how you make god laugh?
You make a plan.

You can plan from a certain extent, hostel beds etc. but the best way is to just go and let your brain and heart tell you where to go. Talk to people, travellers they will point you in the right direction of what to see and what to avoid. That way you are free to go with out to much hassels.

Like I said in the post before. Check www.busabout.com. I thought it was a great idea to travel and see europe if you don’t know where you want to go. Pick a place on the map. Hop off the bus. Stay there for as long as you want/ can, get back on the bus go to next city. Simple.
