We are beginning to plan our honeymoon for early June 2003. I’m thinking that this trip (being a honeymoon and all) is going to be relaxing and somewhat posh. I want to go ‘all out’ (with the benefit of a good exchange rate) and yet at the same time experience some cultural attractions…can’t just sit on the beach all day. We are planning for roughly 2 weeks – potentially breaking it up into 2 destinations (3 at most). Probably a week here and a week there.
Places we have been that fit the bill of our desired honeymoon destination are: Phuket Thailand, Penang and Langkawi Malaysia, and Ambergris Caye in Belize.
We have also been to Oahu, Maui and the Virgin Islands – not really what we are looking for on this trip.
What we want: Good weather! We don’t want to be stuck in the middle of a monsoon. Access to secluded beaches would be nice. Some sort of small town to bum around and kick it when the sun is too hot. A few really good restaurants. Not into clubbing or extreme sports. Love swimming, snorkeling and scuba (only done that once). Moderate hiking is a plus.
Of the islands we visited in SE Asia we enjoyed Langkawi the most. Probably because it’s so quiet, lush and not overrun with tourists. The people of Belize were so universally welcoming that we are even considering going back – but this time to Placencia.
Here is a short list of some places we are considering at the moment – any feedback and other suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
- Koi Samui
- Bali
- Costa Rica
- the Seychelles (probably over our budget)
_ Tahiti
- the Greek Islands (a bit of a curve ball, I know)
