I’ve seen this on other boards, and suprisingly never have here on EuroTrip….

Just wondering who everyone is who posts on here? Where are you from? What do you do? What got you started travelling? Stuff like that.

I’ll start us off….

I’m 25 & married.

From Chicago, lived there all my life

Work in a collectibles company as a product manager

Started off travelling (intl’) by studying abroad in Prague for a summer. Returned the next summer and worked in Slovenia and couldn’t get enough. It’s been going since then.

You get the picture….

So, let’s talk ‘bout me

I’m 31 & married.

From Rijeka (Croatia). Worked for 2 yrs in Germany (Leipzig). Moved in 1997 to Italy (Venice) where I’m typin’ from. So let’s say that I’m close to my homeland (250km)….

I work in computer assistance (HW & SW for huge companies just to pay my rent , yeah, that’s Italy… I have to work for about 10-12 hours a day, and I really hope that next year I’ll move to the field I like ==> TOURISM (What I studied for in the first place!)…

Uhmmm, if someone of You know some Italian could check a site I made, there are some interesting things about me, my passions, interests, and more…if I had time I’d translate that…but sorry I don’t!

If U want to know more…..just ask (lol)

I’m 27 and single.
Born, bred and living in Antwerp, Belgium.
My native language is Dutch (Flemish), but I also speak some English, German, French, Polish and Russian (in order of fluency)
I quit my job at the ministry of finance to travel last may, I’m currently unemployed but I’ve been doing a lot of job interviews so I’m sure something’ll come up soon.
I’ve travelled all over Europe, especially central Europe (I go to Berlin, Poland and Slovakia at least once a year), and have seen little bits of Africa (Tunisia) and Asia (Siberia, Mongolia). I would definitely like to see more of Asia in the future, but currently the Baltic States are on top of my must-visit list.
I’ve always dreamed of travel, but it really started for me in 1999 when I went on a short trip to Berlin and I met lots of people at the hostel who were travelling around Europe. So the next summer I went on a 1-month interrail trip to Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Planning for that trip, I discovered Eurotrip.
I live with my parents, sister, 2 cats, 4 guinea pigs, 2 turtles and some birds.
Oh and my name is Karlien, and I’m female.

My name is Ali, I am female and I am 25 years old.
I live in Kent in the UK, this is where I was born and spent most of my childhood – with a few years spent living in Wales as a child and Ireland as an adult.
I am a designer, but studied Law and Politics at Uni-but dropped out, studied Tourism and French in College – once again dropped out! I guess one day I will find something that I Love workwise!

I only really started backpacking this summer when I had an amazing trip in Prague,Poland, Hungary and Italy. Before this most holidays were spent on packages in Greece, Spain and Mexico. Ive visited just 2 cities in the States,a very small part of Canada, and a bit of the Far East.
As I am based so close to the continent Ive started going away for city breaks in France,Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands.

Great to get to know more about you guys. It’s interesting to me how there really is no strong similarity between all of us, we just all like to travel!! Well I guess Andrew_Runov and I both are in the marketing/advertising world….there’s a similarity.

Have a great night & holiday if I don’t post again before then!!

I’m 25 and not married.
Born in London England but moved to Maryland when I was 4.
Went to uni at the Univ of Maryland for biology and English literature
Moved to Rochester NY three years ago to be a combined MD/PhD student
The program is 8 years total; I’m on year 4 and doing cardiovascular research (v. exciting I know)
I started traveling with my family when I was younger but did a 1-month western Europe eurail trip when I was 18. Then I worked in London for 2 months.
Have traveled every year since then; have been back to Europe many times and also to Australia, India and parts of SE Asia…

…if I didn’t want to become a doctor, I would be a travel writer or travel agent. On bad days, I still think that’s what I would rather be!

Hi, my name is Amanda, I am female and 26 years old from Seattle, WA. I am finally graduating from University after 8years with a degree in Recreation Management. Before I settle down in my career I plan to travel a bit more through W. Europe. I’ve travelled to Ireland and the all over the UK when I was 17, backpacked in Tonga and Fiji four years ago…and I’m anxious to discover Europe. Ever since I found this site I’ve been addicted to it like crack! Travelling is the only thing I look forward to. Can’t wait until March.

Isn’t that so true!!! I find myself even if I don’t have a trip to plan, looking to plan SOMETHING, ANYTHING, if if not that, I like to help others out who are planning theirs!!

We are all a weird breed…

Here goes my first post. This site has been a great resource and i’ve only now gotten around to posting a message.

I’m 26 yo & single. I live in Kansas City, USA. I speak some German, Afrikaans, French. I spent the last summer traveling around Europe, until I ran out of money. I spent the summer before that traveling around South Africa. I have a $500 travel voucher for Contintental so I plan to travel somewhere this summer after I graduate. I have been thinking about Asia or South America, since the dollar is weak in Europe.

What can I say besides I love traveling around and being spontaneous without any plans. It’s great to have such freedom. I have had a very difficult time adapting back to everyday life. My life is soo boring now.

31 years, born in NZ, lived in london 5 years, Dublin for 2 years, now living in sydney with Irish partner. About to become the proud owner of an aussie cattle dog (blue heeler) which is about as close to responsilbity as I care to get. Started travelling in my late teens. I am very passionate about travelling, and moving to Sydney was a choice based partly on career versus wandering the globe still, and the chance to explore south east asia and the pacific from Sydney. May stay here, may not, life for me is one big adventure.

Merry Xmas, my last day at work today and fly home to NZ for myy first xmas home in a few years!!

Hey there,
I’m a 22y/o guy living in Boston and finishing up my last year of college. I’m studying mechanical engineering and am currently on track team at my school.
I plan on heading over to Europe in early May ’05 for approx. two months or longer, depending on when the $$$$ runs out. I want to start in Iceland, but may have to plan on going there another time depending on the price for a ticket there.
I’ve been to Spain and Italy before, and have been dying to get back to Europe for the past few years. May can’t come fast enough.

Well, my turn:

My name is Victoria, I am 28, single and happy. I’m from Mexico City, I was born there, but moved to Sao Paulo, Brasil when I was 3, moved back to Mexico when I was 6. Lived here until I was 26, when I moved to Oklahoma City in the US, I was there for 1 1/2 year, then I went backpacking through Europe for 3 months and came back to Mexico City 5 months ago.

I studied History, but I haven’t finished. I put that to sleep when I moved to Oklahoma City and now I work for a biologyst, we breed butterflies to be released in weddings and all those cheesy events I don’t believe in. I like the job, but I might go back to school next month. I’m still debating it.

I always wanted to go to Europe, but it’s apparently so expensive it’s always been taken as an opium dream in Mexico. I never had the money until I moved to the US, when I became independant. I was chating with some dude when I told him "I would love to backpack through Europe" and he asked me "Why don’t you?" and it dawned on me I had the posibility to pursue that dream, but it was such an opium dream it took me an outsider to tell me I could do it. This happened on January 1st of this year, so I took that as my new year’s resolution, and I did it. It’s the only new year resolution I’ve fulfilled.

After that, it became an addiction. I’ve done one or two trips in Mexico during these past few months, but I can’t wait until I do something as big as Europe was for me.

I’ve travelled NOT extensively through Europe and Brasil, but I was too young to remember that, the west and south of the US and the center and south of Mexico.

Happy holidays.

Well.. this is kinda exciting. I actually stumbled across this website, and have enjoyed reading all about everyone else excursions. I’m so stoked to actually get to have my own stories. My name is Lauren and I’ll be traveling through Europe next summer. The end of May, early June. For about a month or so… my plans aren’t set in stone. I am 22, and my little brother is 19 – this is a first for both of us. To travel alone, and also to go to Europe, so we are already very excited – and mind you it is only December. :> We are from Houston, Texas.

I just wanted to respond, because i know how much I loved reading everyone else’s posts. If anyone is planning on a trip around the same time – we are flyign into Paris at the end of May – feel free to email me – It is always nice to meet new people. Its a trip full of meeting new faces and new friends. :>

Happy Holidays to Everyone..
Lauren

Oh, boy – where to start?
My name is Paulina (Paula for the yanks, I’ve heard so many mess-ups of my name!)I was born in Valencia Spain. I am 23 (almost 24, which is practically 25!) and am currently working for a radio station in San Antonio. I am a double major in communications and French, so I lived in Angers, France off and on for the past 3 yrs. My stepdad is from Mexico City (DF!) and I lived there and in Guadalajara for part of High School, I loooved it there (even if they took the piss out of my accent) Being bounced around so much by my crazy divorced parents, made me love language studies and made me love travel the way I do.
cheers, and happy hols!

Wow, that worked really well Wink

Got to know all of you a bit better than before……….

So what is everyone’s next trip planned, or I guess even better, what is the itinerary for 2005?

My wife & I have the following on our plates…

January (long weekend in Amsterdam)
February (1.5 weeks in Istanbul & Cappadocia, Turkey)
August (2.5 weeks; Bosnia, Montenegro, & Sicily, exact routing yet to be determined)

So it should be an exciting travel year for us again. Never been to AMS (oddly enough), Turkey, or Sicily.

I wouldn’t wanna be posting in the pub if I were a newbie, hope. And it isn’t like the old days anyway, there’s very few pub posters I know anything about, or want to know anything about for that matter.

I haven’t got any clear plans for 2005 yet. As I said I want to go to the Baltics next, but I have no idea when or for how long yet. I’m trying to find a job as a tour guide, if that works out I’ll just be travelling for work next summer. Wouldn’t that be cool?

2005… Well, the business I work for is very young, a couple of months only, so we are not earning millions yet, but next year promises to be very good. Hopefully I’ll be able to save some money, so I have no plans for next year except deliveries to other cities. Those are cool because my boss gives me a couple of days off all paid for to get to know the town or city where I’m delivering the illegal merchandise. Free travel, yay Smile

I’m ummm in my 30s. I’ve lived in sunny San Diego all my life. I’m a humble civil servant contract manager.

I live like a semi-scrooge to satisfy my travel addiction. I went a bit crazy in 2004 (Mexican Cruise, Australia, New Zeland, Kauai, Alaska, up and down the CA coast, etc.). I’m broke for a bit, but I plan on bouncing back in 2005 with possible trips to China and/or Croatia. A cruise might be on order as well, if I can find the right deal.

my turn!
I was born in New Hampshire (USA), family them moved back to their original country Pakistan for a few years, and then to Malaysia where I spent the majority of my life. I transferred over a year ago to University of Michigan..in Michigan of course, my family has now moved to Massachusetts, and I’m right now doing an internship in Ohio!

any of you guys have trouble answering that ‘so where are u actually from?’ question.

i’ve done some small time road trips, in malaysia, canada and across the states.. but the real big one will be coming up with the road trip across europe. is there a rough estimate of how much money (in USD) you would likely spend in 2 months while travelling between UK, france, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Greece and Turkey..? [looking for a very rough estimate of course – we plan to rough it out and live cheapskate =)]

ps: nice to meet you all

Yeah I second Seraphim’s comments to this one. I use to visit the pub quite frequently, but these days I’m more of a "Favorite Places" & "Cheap Flights" poster. So I figured this would appeal to those of us who are in the same boat as I.

Anyhow, happy holidays to you all, and wishing you a safe & merry Christmas/Hannukah/Eid/Kwanzaa, etc Smile

Yeah that’s the spirit! You don’t like something, so just avoid it instead of trying to incite positive change…

…seriously, it genuinely puzzles me why, if people don’t like the pub, they don’t try to go there and bring people with them to start friendly conversation instead of complaining about it and avoiding it. It coudld be a lovely place, but not if everyone has this attitude. Sad Frown

Oh well, have a good holiday guys!

I’m a 29/m, unmarried.

I’ve been living in LA for 4 years, but I grew up outside Chicago and spent 3 years working in the city. LA, despite its lovely weather and great proximity to both the mountains and the ocean, is no Chicago, but somehow I’ve let four years of my life slip by here.

I work in market research.

I did a 2-month Eurotrip in 2000, and have also travelled extensively throughout the US, through much of south/central Mexico, as well as going to Australia, Brazil, Canada, Tijuana (which we all know doesn’t count), and recently, to East Asia.

There are sooo many more places to visit that I’m anticipating a several-month round-the-world trip a few years down the road. But in the meantime, on my short list are Peru (I am DEFINITELY going there in the second-half of ’05), Guatemala, Hawaii, Egypt, Greece, and mainland China. Not sure that I’ll get to all of those places in the next two years with only a couple week’s vacation per year, but I’m gonna give it my best shot.

We will be greeting 2005 at a party in Normandie France! In January we are doing a weekend in Amsterdam….the rest of the years travel plans really depend on when we sell our house! If its not sold at the first part of the year then we plan to spend 10 days in Egypt….if it is…then our plans go something like this –
Mexico,Belize,Costa Rica,Honduras,Panama,Ecuador,Peru,Bolivia,Chile,Argentina,Uruguay,
Brazil….fly to Cairo and overland down to Cape Town…fly to Oz and work there to earn some more cash…spend a couple of months in NZ and Fiji before overlanding back to the UK through Asia…Unless we find somewhere that we wanna stay and not come back to the UK!

This trip is very fluid and in terms of time I think that we are looking at 2-3years travelling.

Cant wait…Im bored with this 9-5,Mortgage crap! Im gonna live my dream!

Merry Crimbo everyone!

PS. With regards to the pub…I visited when I was a newbie and was shit scared! I very rarely go in there! But as Hope says a lot of people in there have got to know each other and have a laugh – but I do agree with Seraphim that it a daunting place for a newbie! Go in with an open mind! I think I shall make one of my resoloutions to visit more often!

I’m 23 years old, single, and from Canada. Aside from Canada, I grew up in different places, mostly, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Dubai (UAE), etc. The exposure to different cultures while growing up was amazing and it really does shape one’s political outlook and world view. I was about 5 or 6 years old when they tried to oust former president Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines. I was also about 10 years old in Saudi Arabia when the first Gulf war started. Pretty exciting times growing up.

Anyway, I’ve got bitten by the travel bug quite early in life due to my parents’ need to go on family vacations every year. I’ve been to Hong Kong numerous times, Singapore, Thailand, Bahrain, United States, Australia, etc. aside from the places where I grew up. Last summer after my college graduation, I went around Europe for 10 weeks (UK, Spain, Portugal, France, Benelux, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic).

My next plan would be South America — Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, etc.

Everyone has some fabulous posts! RTW for two years…. salivates

I am 23 and living with my fiance in China.
Was born in Germany and moved to the US when I was four. Have lived in quite a few different states finally ending in Chicago (where I finished degrees in Biology and Communications) before deciding to depart the US for a few years. Moved to China and found the Limey of my dreams!
As for travel- have been to CZ, UK, Germany, Costa Rica and China.
For 2005 I plan to do some more extensive travel through China, spend the summer in the UK (getting married in Scotland), CZ and Croatia and then get in a bit of SE Asia.

I am just getting started to work on my plans to travel europe.
Any advice help me out.

Anyone looking to make a travel with me drop a line, all my friends backed out, so I might be going alone. It doesn’t bother me, I might enjoy it more.

Hi all! I post occasionally and lurk frequently Smile

I’m a 20 year old from a small town in Wisconsin (USA).

I’m in my 3rd year of university at Marquette University (a small Jesuit university).

I’m studying International Business, Marketing, and Spanish.

I’m fluent in Engligsh and Spanish, can usually understand Italian if I try hard, and know a few random phrases in Dutch and German.

I took my first trip to Europe (the UK and Ireland) as an exchange student when I was 12 years old, and this is when I started my (expensive) love affair with Europe.

Second trip was when I was 17 years old, and I visited Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.

Third trip was this summer. I studied at UFSIA/UA in Antwerpen, Belgium and besides Belgium, I also travelled to France, The Netherlands, and Italy.

And, in about 1 month, I will be picking up my life and moving to Madrid for 5 1/2 months to study at the Universidad Pontifica de Comillas. I’m hoping to save up my money so that I will be able to travel to the few western European countries that I haven’t been to yet (namely Portugal, Switzerland, Greece, and Denmark) and also Morrocco.

I love to travel, and also love to discuss my experiences with others! Smile

It’s interesting to read where people come from and what their travel plans are:
I have done most of my travelling before I settled back in NZ, still need to see Asia as well as more of South America, however next year my mate from England is coming over so I will be travelling around New Zealand

I’m Carli, 21 y/o from AB Canada. At this time last year I didn’t think I’d be in the position I am now: I spent the summer backpacking England, travelling Western and Eastern Europe and Egypt, and I am moving to London in March to work for the next two years while taking mini trips on the side.

Before I started my crazy saving at this time last year, I had been on the "school and work route" (nothing wrong with that, but I learned it’s not for me, right now), I went straight from high school to college, and straight from college to a full time career. So I’m pressing &quotause" for a little bit, I figure my education will always be there and who knows, something fabulous might come up in London but I’m more concerned about living life and enjoying my freedom than sitting behind a desk 40 hours a week right now. After my two years in London, I’m going to apply for an Aussie work visa (thank you, Commonwealth) and go and work and visit all my friends down under, than, maybe, I might settle down. But I’m not making any rules for myself.

I’m perfectly content, happy, and excited since deciding to steer myself onto the beaten track. It’s a lot more exciting this way. Smile

Greetings! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season so far. This is a wonderful post.

My name is Cara, and I live in northern California. Chico is about 90 miles north of Sacramento. I’m a sophomore in college where I currently serve as the public relations coordinator for the campus honor society. I also work in the community as a sexual assault counselor. I do not have a school major that I’m thoroughly committed to; however, I work at a business development firm as a recruiting manager and marketing coordinator and enjoy it very much.

I’m very young, and I’ve always had a bit of travel lust. I’ve traveled a bit within the states, but only on the west coast (mainly up and down California). In 2000, I made my way over to Quebec and Montreal in Canada. I was a French major at an International Studies high school in Las Vegas where my passion for Europe really ignited.

In late June, I woke up one day and decided that I wanted to go to Europe. My now ex-boyfriend thought it was a joke, but I’m here now with my ticket. I leave June 2 and return August 8. I got a Swiss army knife last night for Christmas, and I’m getting a $2,500 check for Christmas as well. My next semester will go by quickly, and it’s just a matter of awaiting departure. I’m ecstatic, and as my family keeps giving me (what I deem common sense) safety tips, I’m very pleased to be heading off alone on this adventure.

I would love to meet others along the way, and as of now, I have a very slim itinerary and would welcome any tips or suggestions.

Cara

I save everything I can. I also put aside all gambling winnings for it. I’m estimating I will need $50,000 including money earned overseas. I’m going to try to get a work visa for several countries so I can settle down in certain places for a while. I also have friends in Germany, Britain, Scotland, Ecuador, Kenya, Zambia, Japan, and Portugal that I can stay with for a while. It will help not having to pay for hostels.

this post is fun – you read about other people’s stories and you get to talk about yourself.

Im 24 and from Montreal. Im doing a master’s in political science (US foreign policy) at McGill, but Im currently in Paris (Sciences Po) for the year. As far as travelling goes, my first backpacking experience was in Mexico when I was 17. I also worked a bit in Scotland and England. I can’t say I’ve seen dozens and dozens of countries like some of you guys, but I’ve been to a few places nonetheless, including Morocco, Peru and Bolivia. Im also planning to visit the european countries I havent been to yet during my time over here. and Id love to go to israel next summer. Or maybe Ill try to do an internship somewhere in europe, Im not quite sure yet.

This is a great thread. It’s good to hear more about fellow traveling peeps.

I’m 29, single, and have been living in the Los Angeles area for the past 10 years. Just got back from my third major trip where I spent three weeks exploring Peru and Bolivia. The experience was much different than my first two trips, which were both to Europe.

I’m trying to break into the travel writing/photography scene, but work meaningless, good-paying jobs until that happens. I hope to move back to Oregon sometime before June.

Kahunna, welcome back from the S. America trip. I can’t wait to read & see all about it….I’ll have to check out your site later for sure.

And best of luck on breaking into the travel writing/photo scene. I wonder how many of us (all? Smile want to do that someday. It would be a dream to have a job like that which I would be so passionate about….

I’m 46 from Athens, Georgia. I’m the HR director for the local newspaper and married to a non-traveler – but my 14 and 16-year-old daughters love to travel and see new places.

I was too intent on finding a job in journalism when I got out of college to do any traveling (too poor, too). I wish I’d found a way. Now I’m limited to 2-week vacations. I hope my girls can do some independent traveling when they finish college.

Several years ago, my brother traded in his business-class ticket to the UK for two tourist-class tickets and took me along for 2 weeks in England and Scotland. That got me hooked on travel.

Since then my parents and I have taken the kids on trips to the Canadian Rockies (Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper) and England (London, Cotswalds, Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, York.

In May the girls and I are leaving for Paris, Nice, Cinque Terre, Rome and Venice for 16 days. This time we’ll be on our own. It will be my first time to travel internationally without my own personal "travel agent" along in the guise of my Dad or my brother. I’ve been planning the trip for about a year already and have only 5 months to go!

I’ve learned so much from everyone on this site. I don’t know if I would have taken the challenge if not for what I’ve read here.

HEI!
Great thread Auher!
My name is Karina, and I’m a 17 year old girl from Stavanger, South-west in Norway. I’m still in school( have 1 1/2 year to go!) and I play volleyball!
I’ve travelled a lot with my parents when I was younger, but the last two summers I’ve travelled with friends.
Although I’ve travelled alone before, this summer is gonna be soooo much more fun, since I’m 18 and can do whatever I want!! I’m planning to go to Italy, France, Spain and Portugal with some friends, and we’ve already bought the plane tickets!!
That’s about it…
