Who's Going?
Tue, 02/06/2007 - 10:27
A buddy and I are planning to attend this year. We are 25 and it Will be our first time. The excitement has already started to build. It gets us through our workday. Although im not 100% sure what to expect.
There’s plenty of good info here on this forum. Ask any question you like, and we can help. What dates are you going to be in Munchen??
MunichBeerBoy
Thanks, im sure i will once we get closer. The date is still up in the air but i figure probably a wed-following thursday. We are trying to avoid flying on the weekends to keep prices down. Possibly 9/26-10/4, any reason we should be looking at being there one week more than another? I read a similar topic on here that said any week during the festival is pretty crazy.
Quick q, do you recommend a hostel or hotel. Im sure hotels are far more expensive. However, if im there for a week, having a room of my own may be worth it. Where have you guys stayed in the past? I read some reviews and it seems wombats was the most popular hostel. When would be the best time to book flights or a hotel/hostel? Thanks in advance….
Edit: Ive been spending my work day researching hotels. It appears as i need to book asap. Things appear to be filled already. I saw someone posted this site… www.muenchen.de which appears to have a lot of info. However, im confused as to where exactly in munich the festival held (ie north, south, east, west, central) for the purposes of booking a hotel.
Sorry for all of the questions, it just seems the more i research, the more questions arise. The whole beer tent reservation system is another topic i will need to ask about later.
Either way, im all charged up for some geman fun.
I would suggest getting a room of your own. Try the following web site:
www.hotel-jedermann.de/
This place is close to the fest and city center, as well as the Hauptbahnhof. If you get a room in the “old” section of the hotel, with shared shower & WC down the hall – it’s very affordable. They also have an outstanding breafast, included in price.
One week is not really any different than another.
MunichBeerBoy
Thanks for all of your help Sun. if i see ya, your first round of beer is on me. Im sure i will have plenty of questions to come.
Ask away meine freund. That is why I am here…
MunichBeerBoy
Im booked for Sept 28-Oct 4. Im staying at the Jedermann. Thanks again Sun!
Btw, which tents should i look to for the younger crowds? When should i look to book a spot in the tents? How do i do so? Keep in mind there are only 3 of us so we wont be able to book a table of 10.
Thanks
Gdrink: You will not need a reservation, as getting a spot for 3 people will be relatively easy..
Younger crowd? Try the Hofbrau & Hippodrom tents. Get there early, perhaps by 1200 or 1230 on weekdays.
You are going to like the location of the Jedermann. It’s about an 8-minute walk to the train station, and the same distance, perhaps a minute less to the Oktoberfest grounds. Just walk-out the front door of the Jedermann, hang a right, then an immediate right on Herman-Lingg strasse, and it’s about 3 blocks (just past St. Paul’s Cathedral & tower) to the Fest entrance.

I just saw your post in this topic, and figured i’d chime in here as well G….like sun said, a reservation is not necessary, nor attainable. most are swallowed up by german corporations and the locals, seeing as they will not take credit cards and many if not all vouchers must be picked up two weeks before oktoberfest in munchen, they will not mail them to you…. i think it’s a ploy to keep the majority of the tents for the muncheners, which is fine, and it should be for them…. you will find that every tent has unreserved tables, marked “unreserviert”, and you can sit there all day and night if you chose (which i have done many times)….
now it all depends on what tent you’re looking to go to, for what time you should arrive on certain days…. many wiesn veterans will tell you monday-thursday be at a table by 3:00 and you’ll have no problem, and the chance of finding spots as late as 6:00pm is very good still….. however, there is only some truth to this…. becuase I, like you, look to enjoy the younger and rowdier tents, i can tell you i have walked into Schottenhamel (the best in my opinion), at 12:00 on a thursday, and had to go elsewhere..now that’s not to say that’s always the case at every tent, but be prepared for it to be, so you can have a back-up plan, and with a little work, you will be able to find seats in a good tent…. the “younger tents” are: Schottenhamel, Hippodrom (not young perse, but hip), Hofbrau and Hacker…. these are the ones you and your friends will want to spend the majority of the day at… so i would say use Monday, tuesday, wednesday, and early thursday to bounce around, see all the wiesn has to offer, but be settled at a table at one of these 4 listed above by 3:00… friday, saturday and sunday you’ll be lucky to get inside any one of these 4 (except hofbrau), even if you arrive at 9:00am (which i have done before), but not to worry; if it is a nice day out, the biergartens outside of hippodrom, and schottenhammel are a great time too (you just won’t hear the band)…. if you’re dedicated enough to get to these tents at 8:00am on the weekends, and wait online (saturday and sunday), you might get in, friday you will get in, if you get to the tent by 10:00am, but be ready to claim your seats, and stay there until you either, can’t see anymore, get thrown out for acting a fool (which i advise against, the securtiy will not hesitate to rough you up), or want to go on rolllercoasters (which inevitably happens to me)…. hope this helps some, and feel free to ask me anything, and although i’m new here, i’ve been trolling for a while, and know that sun is very very knowledgeable and helpful….. check out this link, this is what schottenhammel will look like on a friday around 2:00pm….. i have goosebumps just thinking about it…..PROST!!!!!

Before you know it, we will be well-under 200 days!!! Yaaaaaahhhhoooooo !
MunichBeerBoy
once the summer comes, the time will fly. Im psyched!
Here is a link to an excellent web site for 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd time travelers to Munchen during the fest…
www.bayerntrips.com/
Meine Freunde Scott Stevens owns the company, and they have great deals out of places like Chicago(ORD), Detroit(DTW), and Washington (IAD) to name a few. He is a good guy, and knows Bavaria very, very well. This is a good way to go, because you get to spend time at the Oktoberfest, and see some beautiful, off-the-beaten-path places just outside Munchen, etc.
Check it out!

This is my first post, just joined. Me and some buddies are going over there during the first week. We are booking everything solid here next week. We were thinking of going to Prague for 2 nights, Munich 3, and Amsterdam 2. Will it be worth it or will most people be in Munich partying? i know it won’t really be the tourist season there so I don’t want to waste my time.
As for lodging. We are planning to stay in hostel’s. Which one’s are closest/best to the festival grounds?
if worth going too, would those 3 cities be good choices. We are in our 20s and are looking to have a good time, not really touring and looking at buildings. Just good old Drinking and Partying. Any suggestions would be great. This is my first time planning a trip like this so any help would be great. Thanks in advance!
Well, you have certainly chose three excellent cities to fulfill those needs…

Am still planning on going if the wife is not too pregnant by then.
Chris: Give the Croatian Bros. a call, but everything should be in-order. I e-mailed him twice.

I have been looking for a forum on Oktoberfest.de, but they don’t seem to have it this year. Glad to see that someone has done something about it. Maybe I can be of some help to anyone. This is my 30th Oktoberfest. Started as a junior in college, and have only missed 1 year since. We have 3 tables at Schottenhamel the last weekend, Friday, 10/5, 10/6 and 10/7. It is absolutely a fun time. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

First of all Sorry for me being lazy up until this point!
Im going for 1 week of the festival and I still havnt booked accomodation for it yet. I tried to book at the Jedermann and it was booked out and I was wondering if you guys knew a similar quality place in terms of Low cost rooms and Location? I dont mind a hotel or a hostel as long as its cheap and is within a reasonable time frame of travel to the festival. I will try looking for the hotels n hostels within the next few weeks but I thought it would be better to get some personal tips from experienced oktoberfest goers.
I would very much appreciate any ideas and appologise for my lateness and lazyness.
Also how much do you guys usually spend a day at oktoberfest? including food n beer and stuff. Can you be on a tight budget and still go?
And is it too late for me to get accomodation or am I dreaming?
Cheers guys! I cant wait!
no regrets…
Dale: Try the following places, all within the same area. Walking distance to the fest, and about 3-star rates…
Hotel Amba
Hotel Kurpfalz
 ension Seibel
MunichBeerBoy
Thanks heaps ill get right on em!
no regrets…
Thanks for the help sunskin, they have all ended up way out of my price range. Does 109 euro a night per person sound expencive to you? What other options do I have if I only have about 50 – 60 euro a night to spend? Because im going with my mate would we be able to combine our accomodation money to get a single room for like 100 - 120 euro or are places really strikt on having 1 person per room? Do you think oktoberfest is going to be too expencive for me? I think the max I would be able to spend per day is 100 euro.
And whats the average price for 1L of beer?
Thanks heaps, Ill owe you a few! []
no regrets…
Dale: Those are some of the lower-to-medium priced places. Unfortunately; during the festival, hotel & business owners raise prices about 33 to 40%… Can you pass for a person young enough to stay at a hostel??
MunichBeerBoy
I only just turned 19 and I am mainly staying in hostels when in europe. I thought hostels would have already been booked out? I have a YHA card if that will help. I dont mind staying even an hours travel from the festival. Just so long as for a few hours a day I can go somewhere to get some sleep and keep my stuff safe. Are places further out from the festival, say 30 minutes away cheaper? or does a lot of accomodation around Germany max out during the festival? Sorry if i seem ignorant or if these questions are a bit out of place. Thanks again
no regrets…
Dale: You should be able to get a room at a Hostel. Try either: Wombats or 4Umunchen.de
MunichBeerBoy
Thanks sunskin ill wait for wombats to open there bookings and hope for the best.
Cheers again
no regrets…
I plan on heading to Munich as well, I haven’t booked accommodations as I’m still waiting on people to decide if they’re going with me…
Dale, if you’re traveling alone or with a friend, try www.couchsurfing.com and you should be able to find locals with a couch or extra room willing to host you for the week.
If I end up flying solo, I plan on using the site.
Good luck!
Der Countdown zum 174. Oktoberfest: 142 Tage, 2 Stunden und 6 Minuten !
We have officially broken 145 days. The fest will be getting real close in another 2 months. Those without accomodations yet, I would suggest making calls and inquiries today!
MunichBeerBoy
Ok, so i have been thinking of going for a while now, but i really dont know what to do, at present I do not have an Itinerary (I’m going to Europe for about 7 months, so i figured i might make it up as a go along, although i do have a very rough plan)
I know you have to book well in advance, and i have a feeling i might have left it a little to late.
So basically I am asking anyone for advice, ie places to stay (hostles) that are affordable and somewhat close to the action. If it makes any difference I will be travelling alone to oktoberfest.
Thanks in advance.
Hostels:
Wombats
4UMunchen (just across from Hbf, and real close to fest grounds)
Pensionen:
Seibel
Hotel Amba
Hotel Jedermann (Room without WC & Shower is affordable)
MunichBeerBoy
Wombats is not accepting reservations for Oktoberfest yet. They will open reservations up on June 1, noon, local time.
The 4UMunchen is doing the same… They are taking reservations 90 days ahead of the fest start date.
MunichBeerBoy
I am going to try my luck on that day. If I get a room I will be going to Oktoberfest…If not…I might just have to get creative
Sometimes those are the most fun trips!
MunichBeerBoy
