MunichBeerBoy
Hellow everybody,
My first time @ this Forum. I’ve had to search some time but I think this is a very good place for collect some info. about the Oktober Fest.
We are visiting the Festen 29 sept till 1 okt, just for the weekend.
We are travelling with a bus with about 20 people and stay at a camping just outside München.
I’ve got some qestions;
– Wich music is played in the tents and is the music in all the tent about the same?
– Is it true that Hofbrau, Hippodrom & Schottenhamel are the tents for younger
people like us?(age, around 25/28)
– Do you have to reserve places in these tents?(we are there in a weekend)
– How can we make a reservation?
Already thanx for, hopefully, al nice answersto al these questions []
Greetz Mark
Yes, the Schottenhamel, HBH, & Hippodrom are geared a bit more toward your particular age group. Reservations are not required, but you will have to get there early in the day (11 a.m. to noon) on weekends. The music varies tent-to-not, but not a great deal. You have some rock-n-roll, but with a German “Oompah” band feel to it. And of course, all the traditional Bavarian drinking songs.
MunichBeerBoy
If you are that many you should reserve a table and get tickets ahead of time
Okay, I think it’s better to reserve the places.. How can I do that?>?
I prefer places in Schottenhamel…
Thanx
Now we are officially under 60 days! Only 58 and change to go! I had better start my practice routine this weekend…
MunichBeerBoy
sun, you know better than i….. there is no way to practice over here in the states, what we’re about to experience in 8 weeks time
True enough. However, my watering-hole here in Fla. (European Street) has many good biers on-tap, and in bottles. I have been drinking German (Pinkus Pils, Julias Echter, & Hacker-Pschorr OFest), as well as some good Belgian, English, Lithuanian(Porters), and olish (Zwiek & Okocim) of late. MMmmmmmmm – good!
MunichBeerBoy
We are at the 50 day mark!
Does anybody knows how to reserve places in Schottenhamel. I’ve wrote them an email, but there’s still no response?
Thanx
Please go to the official website: www.oktoberfest.de/zelten
Most of the tents prefer that you download the correct form, fill it out, then FAX it back to them with credit card/deposit/personal info, etc.
MunichBeerBoy
So… Close… twitch
I’m planning on being in Munich from the 25-27. Is my second trip to the festival of festivals and I can’t wait(well, I have to but y’know). []
Sorry guy’s/ladies, but I’ve still no reaction from Schottenhamel? I’ve wrote them an email and send a fax…
Does anybody know how to reach them?
Thanx!
um…. yea…. so turns out…….31 days 15 hrs 20 mins !!!!!!
Sorry Marky.. They generally respond to a fax letter within a few days.
MunichBeerBoy
I’ve just received an email. Thanx!
Still thinking….

Yeah I know. I had a massive heart attack but I am better now. []
Can’t forget to stop by the eurotrip forums around the end of August to see how the crew is shaping up.
I heard it was a small tumor, but cleared-up by drinking Stark Bier!

Der Countdown zum 174. Oktoberfest: 27 Tage, 2 Stunden und 51 Minuten

Sunskin, I just scored frequent flyer tickets for arriving September 19 to September 27. We missed each other last year at the pub on Schwanthaler by a few minutes last year. When are you planning to meet at the pub this year. I’ve started to catch up on my travel website the last few days and have hundreds of pictures from last years Oktoberfest online now at http://lynx-travel1.com/Vacations/Germany06/Germany%20Index.htm . I’ve got a picture of the pub on my September 16-19 page. Or at least the pub I went to. I just wanted to make sure that it’s the correct one. Also do you have any recommendations for the opening ceremonies/parade?
Wally: I think you were at the correct Pub: Schwanthaler Brauwastl & Sports Pub (88 Schwanthaler – Corner of Herman-Lingg str.) last yr! The wife will be with me, so let’s pretend it was 2005 wen we JUST MISSED one another! She thought I was working in 06! I will e-mail you my cell # on 9/20.. See you on Sunday, 9/23 in the afternoon?
Havebeerwt@hotmail.com
SUNSKIN
MunichBeerBoy
“she thought i was working in ’06”……… Sun, this is why i call you “the master”
Technically, I was working.. Research on bier ingredients, etc… I just was not working in Atlanta, GA..
MunichBeerBoy
Once more, I will be posting and e-mailing some folks my Travel Cell number, when I get it on 20.9.07. However, the usual meeting place (#88 Schwanthaler strasse) und the Hippodrom will be where you can find me the first 3 days. I have reservations in Der Galerie Montag (24.9.07) vom 1130-1530 uhr. Then, we will be back at Der Hippodrom Deinstag (25.9.07) vom 1600-1900 uhr… So, we hope to have a Mas or three with: Luvbeers, RUGGER, Wall, MattyMick, Gdrink(coming later in week), but we will toast to him! And a few other fellow Eurotroppers & Bier Lovers! Only 17 days to go!
MunichBeerBoy
Thanks Sunskin, see you there. I will be there for the opening parade. Do you have any suggestions on where to watch it. Is it even possible to get in the Schottenhamel tent for the tapping of the first keg?
My favorite spot is in-front of the best Hotel im Munchen – The Bayerischer Hof. It’s about 100 yards or so from the Frauenkirche. The Hotel (gals dressed in traditional dirndl) hands-out free glasses of Lowenbrau…
MunichBeerBoy
I’m inside a week. Watched Beerfest last night on Directv to get in Oktoberfest mood. The Broken Lizard guys crack me up. Sunskin, when will we get to see something on your website? Also, thanks for the info on the parade. It’s hard to pass up a spot where they are serving free beer. See you on the 23rd. I’ll check my emails for your phone number.
Wally: The web site will be under construction, with not much to it – until after this year’s Fest… I will then pay the $500 to $700 for a unique logo, web design team, and create links to photo’s, deals, info, etc.
MunichBeerBoy
ah you gotta let me do the logo!
You’re hired Chris. I will make payment arrangements, and decide on which one to work with when I see you on 9/24… Maybe bring a few ideas for logo’s with you??
MunichBeerBoy
What kind of weather is typical for the fest? Ive seen its about 58F right now. Is that cool or average? Ive seen videos with people in shorts and tshirts. Call me a wimp but 50 degree weather is a bit cold for shorts. Im just looking to get an idea of what to pack. Im assuming long sleeves and pants. Maybe a couple of sweatshirts.
G…. i’ve been absolutely blessed the last 2 years…. lierally 70F and sunny everyday, no humidity… cross you fingers and get down on a knee and pray this again is the case, as it is absolutely perfect festival weather… i went to the tents in jeans and a t-shirt everyday and was completely comfortable…. that said, check weather.com the days leading up to you depatruer and see… i would suggest, if it is supposed to be highs in the mid-60’s and up, the jeans an t-shirt…. 55-65 highs, might consider a long sleeve t-shirt with jeans, especially if you plan on doing stuff outside (rides etc.) and i higly doubt you’ll need to pack a pair of shorts in the end of september to munich to be comfortable… and i’m not going to mention the “R” word… like i said, pray, i have been, there are about three times a year i care what the weather is, and this is at the top of that list
thanks for the quick response. I wont even say it but, the dreaded “R” word couldn’t even dampen my spirits….im psyched!
I won’t be making it this year
Looking forward to the web page Sunskin. You’re the man on this forum, I’m sure the web page will be entertaining. On to something completely different, do you have any interest in a 2006 and 2007 official Oktoberfest poster. I get the German tourist board to send me a poster for my travel agency every year and I got my tube of posters today. They sent me an extra 2007 and one from 2006 along with all kinds of Munich miscellaneous posters like Marienplatz. I figured I give you first shot since you help us all out.
Wally: That would be nice.. I do not have the 06 Poster.
MunichBeerBoy
Email me your address to lynx@lynx-travel.com and I will get them out in the mail right away.
SUNSKIN,
I DID NOT FIND A NUMBER FOR YOU POSTED….THIS IS THE LAST NIGHT FOR ME HERE…..MAYBE AT THE
PUB ON SCHWANTHALER AFTER THE FEST……..RUGGER
RUGGER: I had posted it a few times here in O-Fest forum. Sorry I missed you & Wally68. In fact; I rec’d Wally’s call 2 days ago. Dude, I wish you would have called back. I was almost whispering, because we were in the middle of a guided tour in a Museum, etc. Your in-coming number said “Privat #” on caller ID, and (no number) in the In-Coming calls folder, etc. So, I could not call back later..
MunichBeerBoy
Sorry Sunskin,
I was sick most of week, caught something on plane, but struggled through. I didn’t make it over on Monday at all. I tried calling you on Tuesday from hotel but number didn’t seem to work. I don’t know if me or bad instructions on how to use hotel phone or me. I only had a couple or beers Tuesday anyway before heading back. When I called on Wednesday it was from T-Mobile booth at Oktoberfest Entrance. All I had was 20 cent Euro piece that gave me the time to say hi and is this Michael. I heard you really softly and knew you couldn’t have been at the festival. Didn’t know if you had just woke up but museum makes more sense now and I was cut off by T-Mobile phone. I tried the 2 Euro coin but it wouldn’t take it. I was going back to hotel to use internet for work and was going to call you again there since I knew the phone worked but stopped in Hofbrau Tent for 1 last beer. Or at least that was original plan. Amazed at my size they wanted to buy me a beer after my first one. One beer led to to another and a table of Brits and Aussies ended up buying me beer until the tent closed. The family of Brits were great, the dad was at 13th over last 30 years with his friend and his 3 sons who he had brought each to his first Oktoberfest over the last 3 years to continue family drinking tradition. They will be going on my front page of website. I’ll mail the posters on Monday. We will have a beer together one of these years. Hope you had a great time. Even sick as could be I had a blast the few nights I was there. Never again though on opening Saturday night. I’ve seen the parades now and can come back midweek from now on. Saturday was insane. I couldn’t get a seat anywhere. Sunday night was a little better. But I’d never do an opening night again.
Wall” Sounds like you at least had a good time for a couple of days. Too bad you were sick Monday, as that was the best day of the week! Till 2008!
MunichBeerBoy
I took a walk around the Olympic Park and Village for a couple of hours and was just wiped out on Monday. I spent the rest of the day in bed hoping to recover a little for the next 2 days. I’m still sick now but at least I had a great last night. I just posted some of my pictures from that night on my main webpage at http;//www.lynx-travel.com near the top. I’ll get others from my week in Munich with parades online ASAP.
Mine will be posted on: www.havebeerwilltrav… .com
… In just 2 wks.
My wife is sick too!
