First a suggestion:
I will be going abroad to work for a year to 18 mos. starting this summer. How did I do it?
AIESEC. It’s the largest international student-run non-profit organization in the world, and they help college students find internships (i.e. REAL jobs) abroad. They are now in 85 countries, and their fee is MUCH smaller than the commercial agencies. Check out the endorsements they’ve gotten at http://www.aiesec.org/about/endorse.asp
This includes such people as CEOs of companies like Ericson (cell phones), Lufthansa and PricewaterhouseCoopers, as well as world leaders like Kofi Annan, the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
AIESEC has offices at more than 800 universities worldwide, so look for them at your school!
They will get your work permits, help you find a place to live, and put you in contact with a support network in your new city. You can go for from 6 weeks to 18 months.
Now here are the questions:
Does anyone have any advice for the actual move? Suitcases versus shipping stuff in boxes, what to take and what to leave behind? Take a laptop or no? ANYTHING you can tell me would be appreciated.
Thanks!
