I live in Manchester, England – and can highly recommend doing what I do as a great way to both travel and make money at the same time.

It’s selling posters and prints – mainly along shopping malls and town centres. The posters themselves are of all sorts – animals, pop stars, football, student ones, romantics, Simpsons and South Park etc.

It might not sound that profitable and lucrative, but believe me – it is! I can very easily make a profit of about 80 pounds a day ($110) and almost every week manage to save about 200-250 pounds after all my expenses (about $300-370). That includes car, accommodation and food.

This also gives you loads of scope for touring around England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Just set off to whatever city or town you like.

You just buy them of a wholesaler for 40p each (55c) and re-sell at 1.50 pounds (about $2.50). All the profit is yours and the deal with the supplier is that you can return all or any of the left over posters back for a full refund.

It is very easy to get a working license for this purpose in the UK, and it only costs you 12 pounds (about $17) – valid for a year.

This permit allows you to work legally in the streets providing that you do not cause an obstruction. This more or less means that you will be told by the police to move along about once or sometimes twice a week. There is never any ‘trouble’ and the police are always very nice and courteous about this – no problems at all other than a loss of a couple of hours in packing up and moving to the next town.

You will need to be mobile – as the posters are very heavy. Renting a car can be about 70-80 pounds a week or about 250 pounds a month. You may consider buying a car for about 700 pounds or so ($1000) but unless you are over 25 yo or so, the insurance my be expensive.

Doing it without a car or only in big cities is not recommended. London, Cardiff, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dublin – and neither worthwhile nor good to work in. You are much better off touring the smaller towns instead.

Taking the car as well as the posters over to Europe is quite good, although it is not quite as profitable. I intend to do just that in about a week or so, going over to Belgium and Holland – but from past experience I can say that I much prefer only working a day or two a week over there (and making about 150 pounds – $220 profit on the best two days of the weekend) and then just touring around for the other five days. Scandinavia is very good for sales – especially Norway and Finland (where you can charge about $7 each for them!) and I had decent sales also in Denmark (about $4) and Sweden ($5).

Driving an English number plated car in Europe is a big bonus, as you will be able to park almost anywhere without needing to pay for parking or getting a ticket – as there is very little cross-channel control.

Let me know if you need any more info, or you can contact the wholesaler directly at icturesgalore@hotmail.com”>picturesgalore@hotmail.com or ave.007@cwctv.net”>dave.007@cwctv.net . If I am still around when you come over, you are very welcome to join me for a day or two and see what its all about. Otherwise, David or his wife Leora are also very friendly and nice and are quite happy to show you how its done somewhere near their place in Manchester (but only on the weekend).

Good luck and happy travels,
Philip.
