Never heard of this before, must be new, but it would be above board if it is through STA Travel, but that is alot money to waste if you don’t like the pub you get placed in.
Do you have somewhere to stay when you get to London? Cause if you do, just crash there and look for pub work from there, that way you can suss out the layout of a pub before you accept the job

What kind of accomodation are they talking about? An apartment or an empty storage room with a fold-up cot in it? Also, how many hours per week are they expecting you to work?

depending on the pub you get placed in you will get a room and at least one free meal a day. STA says that all the accomodation is checked (because accom. in London is notoriously bad) by the program before pubs are allowed to be part of the deal. It will be a full time job. So I guss +35 hours a week.

£120 for 35+ hours is terrible, especially for working in London, I suppose they are giving you accom but I guarentee that if you got a full time job in london in a bar and stayed in a hostel, you would make much more of a profit. Your looking at £6-7 an hour for working in some good bars in London, you should at least get £200 a week.

When applying for pub jobs, most accommodation is included, if you decide not to take accommodation, often this does not make a difference in the wages.
Quite often, you can end up sharing a room with other staff members, but pub work is an experience and you will either like it or not. If you end up working in a pub in the city, you often get the weekend off, other pubs you could work from 11am-2pm and then back again from 7pm to 11pm, they are all different

I’ve always been wary of any organization (reputable or not) that want you to pay them to get you a job. It might be daunting when you get somewhere and it’s sink or swim, but you likely won’t have a problem finding a job within the first couple of days as long as you’re persistent. Also, what showtimestafford was saying, that pay is incredibly low. They’re offering you less than minimum wage, and you don’t make tips in a pub. You’d have a lousy time trying to survive in London on it. If you like the service industry, another idea is to get a job waiting tables. I worked in a busy tourist area in Edinburgh and made about 10 GBP/hour on busier nights. (More than I’d ever make here at home…) I wish I could go back. Have a great time!
