Family members of those killed about flight 93 in Pennsylvania on 9/11 are gathering today to listen to the last 30 minutes of the plane’s flight recorder and control tower communications. I can totally empathize with the surviving family members desire to hear their loved one’s voice or to understand what went on during those final moments but in this case wondering might be better than knowing the details. Similarily, in the case of Daniel Pearl, if you were his wife, would you want to see the video tape of his throat being slashed? Is it better to hold onto a more pleasant memory? What makes grieving people want to know these details?
