Your screen name
Sun, 07/18/2010 - 04:21
Everyone has a screen name. Sometimes it’s a travel place related pun, or a play on words with your real name. What made you choose the one you use?
nothing is impossible!
After trolling around the site for the better part of a year before I finally signed up, I knew I was much older than the typical member. I think my first choice was some other indicator of old age that was already taken. My current photo is one of my favorites from Slovenia. I’m currently a flatlander who seriously misses living in the mountains.
My screen name is a very old nickname of mine.
Oldlady, I used to live in Denver but always pined for the ocean (grew up on both coasts).
Finally got back to the beach a few years ago. I do miss the mountain views, but I am a real flatlander now. We visited New Mexico and Colorado in May and I got a bloody nose the fifth day into the trip (probably more aridity than altitude).
Well, my username is basically just my real name.
My name is Paula and A stands for Avery which is my family name. I could not really think of other fancy names.
Being a bargain traveler has a lot of advantages
When I was a kid my older brother and his friends used to call me Colonel Klink, from the television show Hogan’s Heroes, I guess because “Klink” sounded similar to my real name and because of my parents’ German accents. Flash forward 15 years or so, and one day as I was talking I flubbed whatever it was that I was trying to say, one of my friends said something like “way to go, clunk! , and it just stuck.
I am not very creative soooo…….mb

I obtained my name through a study abroad trip to Leuven, Belgium in 2001. Collectively, my classmates decided that they would solely refer to me as “funky” due to 1) all I wanted to do was “get funky” and dance at night and 2) I like all things funky: funky beats, funky clothes, funky cold medina, etc. The “J” is for the first letter of my last name. To this day, my school mates refer to me as “Funky”, sometimes I think they forgot my real name
Funny, some of us on here and the other site have had “fests” where we meet the people behind the screen names. Amazing the impressions we have of people based on what they write. People who I thought were female, were in fact male, people who I thought were young, were in fact much older. Every one has got a story.
I was once fascinated in the origins of names, their meaning and what if any implcations they have for the wearer……I found my name originated from a black Roman Slave named terentious, who later became a recognised Poet and a citizen or Rome…that says something about surmounting great obstacles….I like that…T

And I so wanted Walter………has such a depth of character as to be almost unattainable,, and as there was already a walter, I settled for the lesser…..be well Walter…

Been doing some other stuff but I figured it was time to have a look here again. Let’s see how long I stay around this time but I have to admit, so far I enjoy being back
Welcome back, Wa1ter—you were missed!
Thanks Cil!
I have done a lot of non-profit work, and also some community involvement with different boards and commissions. I was appointed to the Community Services Commission, and a few years after that a buddy of mine started calling me The Comish…. n’ it just stuck. I usually only use it when I need a nickname online.
