For a combination of scenic beauty and classic European architecture and sights, Eurotrip recommends the above itinerary for a one month highlight of the Best of Western Europe.
First, soak up the atmosphere of London with new and old architecture standing side by side in one of the most dynamic cities in the world. Then, party it up in picturesque Amsterdam before boarding a train to the ultra-hip and historic Berlin, Germany. Next, dip your feet into Eastern Europe and experience the magic of Kafka’s Prague before heading to the home of Oktoberfest and liter steins in Munich. Recover from Munich’s legendary hangover by getting a whiff of the fresh, crisp air in Innsbruck and rest up before making your way through the crowds of Venice, one of the most fascinating cities in the world. After Venice, travel through the Tuscan countryside and experience the Renaissance masterpieces in Florence before again hitting the rails and coasting up through Switzerland to the stunning Grindelwald. After Switzerland, the City of Lights awaits. Spend 4 days soaking up everything Paris has to offer before heading back for a day or two in London.
While this itinerary certainly does not cover everything Europe has to offer, it is a nicely paced backpacking trip that highlights some of the best cities on the continent.
Our suggested itinerary (before airfare and a rail pass) is $3000 USD. This is a comfortable budget that can be adjusted depending on an individual’s travel style. This budget generally suffices for a bed at a hostel, a few beers at a bar, a combination of hostel cooked meals and cheap restaurants and admission to museums.
Eurotrip recommends a Eurail 5 Country Benelux/France/Germany/Italy/Switzerland 8 Day Select Pass, but expect to pay around $140 in city to city tickets where the Eurail pass does not cover.

have you already booked the train and the hostels? This seems like a good itinerary. Are you travelling alone?

This is the first in a series of suggested itineraries from Eurotrip.
I know that the dates aren’t written in stone yet but the # of days that I will be going for is a definite. Mim have you been to Spain before?
Yep — check your original trip — I commented.
I have been trying to use the trip planner for months, but the tool never finishes loading. I am able to view the maps though.
Is anyone able to give me some advice?
Sorry for the issues
Is your browser updated? The planner is optimized for Firefox, what browser are you using?
It seems it didn’t like IE. Seems to work perfectly on Google Chrome. I have uploaded my trip. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hello!
Is the $3,000 per person? Do you think this trip could be accomplished with $5,000 for 2 people?
Thanks
Maxine
Definetely doable!
Hi Savika,
thanks for your comment and I just managed to access this part of the site, no I havent yet..
and yes I will be travelling alone.
any suggestions..
cheers
Sean
I’ve never been to Europe before but I’m planning on going in the summer of 2012. I’d like to do something like this, but with a few modifications. Would it be feasible to add Rome, Scotland and Ireland, and remove Switzerland, Austria, and Amsterdam?
hey,mim i’d like to start from any of the eu country and end up in london, uk.so is it possbl to add 1 or 2 eu countries excluding uk and get the budget to 6000 usd for 3 persons???thx
Split three ways would be pretty tough. Is it for the same amount of days?
days can be reduced to 25. bt we want to start from entebbe, uganda to europe thn at last finish in uk if we get the visa.
Budget would be really really difficult then. You’re looking at $33 per day per person. You would have to camp/couchsurf and not do much all day for that to work.
hi!! so im planning my first trip to europe (SOOO OVERWHELMED!!!!) im liking this trip with some modifications and going the opposite direction. im planning my trip for may 2012, meeting a gf in london, shell be with me for 2 weeks, then ill be on my own for an addtional 3 weeks. were only spending a couple days in london as well as paris. Id like to add Budapest and Romania. is this possible??but also having a challenge with the desire to spend time in spain and portugal!! i havent quite set my budget yet, thinking $4,000
