Hmmm, soooo, I’m still figuring out how to use this site…so bear with me. It has been quite useful so far, wish I’d stumbled onto it a few months ago!!! My younger brother and I are planning our trip, 2 weeks, flying into and out of Amsterdam. His main objective is to party and meet people, mine is to have fun but not be miserably hungover and miss the whole thing. I understand as the big sis I will be babysitting a bit, and I fully accept that.
We plan to hit up Germany (Berlin, Munich and the Neuschwanstein Castle), Switzerland (not sure where, suggestions???), Florence, and of course spend a fair amount of time in Amsterdam. We had talked about Spain, but on our budget and time frame I do believe that is pushing it. Any and all advice is completely welcome, as it’s been 18 years since I was last in Europe, and Ma and Pa won’t be directing this voyage! Well, I guess I’ve got a few questions I’m gonna go to the forums looking for answers on….See ya!
I would suggest you enter some of those cities into your itinerary so you have an idea of how long you will be able to spend. Even without Spain, you are packing a lot of stops over a fair amount of distance in only two weeks. . . You may need to cut it down further — but let’s see it on the map first.
Well, that’s the cities loosely. We aren’t 100% set on the Italian cities…we definately want to hit Italy, and I thought Pisa would be fun, but its not mandatory. Also, we are thinking about just spending a day in Zurich on the way to Italy, not making it an overnight stop…Though I am not sure how that would work.
Pisa is probably best done as a day-trip from Florence. The rest of your trip is certainly doable, tho I would probably switch up your last few destinations and take an overnight train from Munich to Florence and then to Zurich afterwards.
You should be able to pick one other place you want to visit between Zurich and your return to Amsterdam.
Actually considering the distance between most of the places you want to go, an overnight train is really the best way for you to get from one location to the next since most of these train trips are in the 6hr+ category when taken by day. Something to think about…
In regards to Switzerland you should vist Lausanne i used to live there when i was a kid, i loved it and still do its a quite a large town and it has some great out door markets and it feels like a seaside down its right on Lake Leman and you can take boat trips over to Évian-les-Bains in France (were Evian Water is from) also a great place to vist is Rhone Glacier, its very beautiful.
